Internal server error meant some people could not access public websites for 90 minutes but incident was not a cyberattack, authorities say
Luxembourg state websites including those of the police, government, MyGuichet, the Statec statistics agency and the State Centre for Information Technology (CTIE) were all down on Wednesday morning, but there has been no evidence of a cyberattack, authorities said.
The websites appeared to be working normally on the Firefox browser but were offline for users of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. A CTIE spokesperson later confirmed that all the sites they manage were offline "for some people but not others".
According to the CTIE spokesperson, the problems lasted from around 90 minutes, from between 10:27 and 11:59 on Wednesday morning and were caused by a server error.
The CTIE was keen to point out that the problem was internal and that there is no evidence of a cyberattack, of which there have been several against Luxembourg companies and state institutions over the past year. "Networks are quite complicated, after all," the CTIE spokesperson said.
As of midday, all CTIE administered websites were back online again on all browsers.
The CTIE does not look after the national parliament website, which last week was taken down for over a day following an attempted cyberattack.
